Okeechobee Main Street was awarded a grant from the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs for a public art sculpture project to be installed in downtown Okeechobee.
Upon receiving the grant, the project was approved by the City of Okeechobee to be installed in Flagler Park. This project is a sculpture installation of eight large metal butterflies, designed and painted by local artists, including high school students who painted two of the butterflies alongside of residents of an assisted living facility. Many community businesses supported the project though matching funds sponsorships, with a local car dealer, Gilbert Family of Companies coating and sealing all the sculptures with a weather and UVA protectant.
On June 30th the installation was presented in the Hamrick Butterfly Garden.
